QuadGearTM Student-Run Business |
| | Canisius SIFE wanted to give all students the opportunity to be involved in every aspect of running a business - from writing the business plan to equipment maintenance and financial reporting. Furthermore, we wanted to create a sustainable source of funding for our educational outreach projects. Canisius SIFE started a customized merchandise business and turned it into an educational "learning laboratory."
If you would like more information about our business, or would like to place an order, please e-mail us at quadgear@canisius.edu or call us at (716) 888-5540.

Play Dough Economics |
| |
Through this 15 week project, elementary students are taught basic economic concepts from a team of SIFE members. The students are then able to demonstrate their learning by making an example of the day's lesson out of play dough. The students are given a pre and post test on each day's lesson to assist the SIFE members in analyzing effectiveness. The majority of pre tests have grades ranging from 25-40%, while the post tests range from 60-80%, a significant increase. Canisius SIFE has reached over 340 students with 28 instructors.

Learn & Earn Savings Program |
| | The most important personal success skill is self-control and the ability to delay gratification. To promote these attributes, which are established by age 13, we have implemented a savings and allowance program. This twenty week program targets elementary students and teaches students about self-control through interactive lessons and visual aids. The students are given their very own piggy banks and a book, and a book about two children who have very different saving and spending habits, entitled The Adventures of Saving Sam and Buying Brenda, which was written, illustrated and published by Canisius SIFE. The students earn a $0.10 weekly allowance and a 25% interest on savings (up to $44 at the end of the program.)

Holiday Vendor Market |
| | The first Tuesday and Wednesday of December, we invite entrepreneurs who produce products to Canisius to sell their products just before students go home for Winter Recess. We provide the vendors with educational materials, including a pamphlet made by Canisius SIFE entitled, "How to Turn a Cold Shoulder into a Hot Sale," material from the Canisius College Women's Business Center, and materials on business banking from one of our Business Advisory Board Members. Last year, within two hours of the first day, vendors were reporting sales higher than they usually receive in a weekend show.
Individual Entrepreneurial Consultations |
| | We help entrepreneurs develop their business by assisting with website development, developing their target market, helping to out source production, teaching them accounting through QuickBooks, and developing business plans.
